Spyware o la primera trompeta del Apocalipsis

De acuerdo con What Is, spyware es cualquir tecnología orientada a recoger información sobre una persona u organización sin su conocimiento. De forma más precisa, en el contexto de Internet se califica como spyware a cuaquier programa que es alojado en un ordenador para recoger información de y sobre el usuario de forma secreta, con el fin de ser utilizada posteriormente por anunciantes o cualquier otro interesado (mas info en Iblnews).

El principal peligro del spyware se refiere a la privacidad. No hay nada objetable cuando a cambio del uso gratuito de un programa, éste nos advierte que se va a recoger nuestro perfil de uso del mismo. Sin embargo, a menudo las aplicaciones de spyware se instalan sin conocimiento del usuario, vulnerando la protección de su intimidad.

Un ejemplo del estatus polémico del spyware puede encontrarse en las diversas opiniones que ha suscitado la compañía Gator. Gator, que acaba de cambiar su nombre por Claria, se define a si misma como la empresa lider en Online Behavioral Marketing. De acuerdo a su propia visión:

"GAIN Publishing distributes a variety of popular software applications and owns and operates the GAIN Network, the world's largest in-context behavioral advertising network. The GAIN Network helps keep many popular software applications and web sites free. These software applications also occasionally display pop up ads on your computer screen based on your online behavior. Alternatively, ad-free versions of the software titles distributed by GAIN Publishing are available for purchase."

Sin embargo para muchos usuarios sus productos rozan los limites de la buena fe (algunas opiniones) ya que abusan del desconocimiento que la mayor parte de los usuarios tienen de la información recogida, a la vez que dificultan el uso del PC (pop-ups molestos) o empeoran su rendimiento.

Más allá del caso concreto de Claria, la existencia del spyware es solo un primer aviso del "lado oscuro" de una tendencia imparable, la de vincular un mejor servicio a un mejor conocimiento del cliente. En realidad la pregunta que todos tendremos que contestar en cualquier canal interactivo va a ser la de ¿cuanta información estoy dispuesto a compartir por disfrutar este servicio? Un nuevo miembro de la ecuación del valor en la que hasta ahora sólo incluiamos coste monetario y aprendizaje. La primera trompeta del Apocalipsis (de la privacidad) acaba de sonar.

Todavía recuerdo la primera vez que, siguiendo una recomendación de Julián, me instalé el Pest Patrol de ZoneLabs, que venía en lote con el firewall, Zone Alarm. Aquella "cosa" empezó a pitar como loca, y me informó "amablemente" de que había encontrado algo así como ventitantas "pests", o programas que monitorizaban mi actividad. Obviamente, la definición de "pest" del Pest Patrol es un pelín rigurosa, pero es impresionante hasta que punto loq ue uno hace en su quehacer diario tiene un valor para quienes pretenden cosas, ya no necesariamente delictivas, sino tan sencillas como saber que anuncios has visto y cuales no para no repetírtelos (o repetírtelos el número de veces que diga el cliente). En cierto sentido, es como si cuando paseamos por la calle mirando escaparates, un detective privado (o un loro :-) nos fuese siguiendo para ver lo que hacemos, a donde miramos, cuanto tiempo, con cuanto interés... Todo un punto de reflexión.

El Pc q estoy utilizando es de mi cargo pero son 20 usuarios frecuentes en su utilzacion.
Haciendo un mantenimiento del sistema con AD-AWARE SE descubrí y eliminé un objeto crítico llamado "Claria" el q estaba alojado MASIVAMENTE en el Pc (borre cerca de 50 objetos). El problema es q estos objetos siguen apareciendo de la nada y cada vez elimino mas objetos... ¿q puedo hacer para acabar con este "cuasi virus" de mi PC?, ¿Existe algun software similar o superior a AD-AWARE para eliminar de raíz el spyware?
